For the 2019-20 academic year, CIR is thrilled to welcome twenty High School Fellows from across northern New Mexico.
Meet our current 2019-20 Fellows
My name is Gabriella and I am originally from Taos, New Mexico. Currently, I live in Santa Fe and attend Mandela International Magnet School, where I am a junior. Skiing, music and being with my family and friends are what make me happiest.
My name is Koray and I attend the Santa Fe Waldorf School. I like to play sports, especially soccer, and I also am on the track and field team. I also like to spend time outside and I go on a lot of camping trips down rivers and in the mountains. Through this project, I hope to learn more about the students participating in this program around the world and the places where they live.
My name is Xitlalitl and I am in 11th grade at the Mandela International Magnet School in Santa Fe. I come from an immigrant family; my mom is from Durango, Mexico and my dad is from San Salvador. I love learning about cultures and global issues and I get to explore those interests by volunteering with organizations like the International Folk Art Market and by traveling to different places and talking to people. An additional fun fact: I love yoga!
My name is Estephany and I am a junior at The Masters Program, a charter high school located at the Santa Fe Community College. After high school, I want to help my community by becoming a lawyer. I love riding horses, running, building houses, and working with smaller children. I dance ballet folklórico on my free time and I enjoy taking care of my siblings. I am passionate about making a better world for future generations.
My name is Lilia and I am 17 years old. I am a junior at Capital High School. I come from an immigrant family and am interested in conflicts in Central and South America, climate change, animals and the medical field. I hope that one day I will be the first doctor or veterinarian in the family. I love dogs and I am good at drawing and also love baking.
My name is Jammes and I’m currently in my junior year at Mandela International Magnet School. I have lived in Santa Fe my whole life. This is my second year participating in the CIR Fellowship. I am participating in this program for the second year because of the amazing experiences it provides. I love attending the events and meeting so many amazing people and I am very glad to have this opportunity.
My name is Lauren and I am from the Pueblo of Ohkay Owingeh. I attend the Santa Fe Indian School as a senior, and I am 17 years old. I stand for climate action. I’ve been subtly doing my best to ensure that I increase my small contribution to climate action. Which has led me to the this program, which provides me with tools, resources, and connections to guide me in a direction for climate action, locally and globally. I am excited to work with this program and am looking forward to exploring ideas for solutions to global issues.
My name is Mah Begum. I’m 17 years old and I am a senior at Desert Academy in Santa Fe. I am from Afghanistan. After finishing high school, I am planning to go to college in the US. I would like to study international relations in college. I like sports, I am playing Volleyball in school. I like listening to music and I am learning how to play the guitar. I would like to talk to people from different regions and hear their struggles, strengths, and share my struggles and strengths, too.
My name is Rebekah. I am a 17 and I am a student at Moriarty High School. I live in Moriarty, New Mexico. I love playing tennis, painting, and spending time with my friends!
My name is Skylar. I am a junior at the ASK Academy in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Most of my time is spent in school or studying. However, when I am not doing things for school, I really enjoy painting, watching movies, and hanging out with friends. Usually on the weekends I will go to coffee shops, bookstores, or the movies with my friends. I also really like learning about politics because that is what I want to further study in college. I am really looking forward to this program because I feel I will obtain so many connections that I can use to further my academic career.
My name is Parker and I am 17. I am originally from Vermont, but I now live in Santa Fe, New Mexico. In my free time, I enjoy photography, running, speech and debate, and learning about different languages and cultures. I am so excited to be involved with this project!
My name is Harlan. I am 17 years old and I attend the Santa Fe Indian School. I am from Cochiti Pueblo, New Mexico. I enjoy spending time outdoors and going on adventures. I look forward to getting to know you all!
My name is Neha. I’m a senior at Los Alamos High School. I am currently working on many college applications and I hope to attend college in Washington DC or Chicago next year. I love speech and debate, listening to music, and watching Netflix!
My name is Lauren. I am 16 years old, and I am a junior at Santa Fe High School. I have lived in Santa Fe my whole life. The things that make me happiest are reading, listening to music, and making connections with people.
My name is Victoria and I attend Los Alamos High School. I am 16 years old. My family is originally from Italy, but I live in New Mexico. Some of my hobbies are reading and painting. I am very eager to learn more about you all!
My name is Nora. I am 15 years old and have lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I am currently a tenth grader at a school in Santa Fe called Mandela International Magnet School. In my free time I enjoy playing the cello, cooking, and baking. I also love traveling and learning about different places and cultures in the world around me.
My name is Seneca and I’m a senior at the Santa Fe Indian School. I spend a lot of my time working with an environmental justice organization, doing peer tutoring, and writing for my local newspaper. In my free time, I like to draw, listen to music, and watch YouTube videos. I’m excited to learn more about other cultures through this program and to meet new people!
My name is Caitlyn. I am 17 years old, born in Santa Fe, and attend The Masters Program at Santa Fe Community College. I will receive my Certificate in Liberal Arts in December and when I graduate in May with my high school diploma I will also receive an Associate’s Degree in Psychology. I enjoy traveling, reading, and spending time with my family.
My name is Ami and I am a freshman at Santa Fe High School. I am a musician, actor, hard worker, little sister, and a good friend!
My name is Alyssa. I am originally from Española, but I currently live in Santa Fe. I attend The MASTERS Program at Santa Fe Community College. I will receive my Certificate in Liberal Arts transfer, as well as my certificate in criminal investigation . When I graduate in May with my high school diploma I will also receive an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice. I intend to become a lawyer when I finish school. I play Varsity softball for Santa Fe High School. I also enjoy adventures outdoors, doing art, being with friends and family.
