Academic WorldQuest 2018

Academic WorldQuest 2018

CIR is thrilled to offer, for the third year running, the popular Academic WorldQuest (AWQ) competition, a program of the World Affairs Councils of America (WACA). We are holding the local competition on March 1st, 2018 at the Santa Fe Community College.

Want to participate? Each team is comprised of 4 students (with 1-2 alternates) and 1 teacher. You will need to use the AWQ 2017-2018 Study Guide to prepare properly; it has many different resources that address the below topics for this year’s AWQ:

  • ASEAN at 50
  • India’s Bid for Global Power
  • Combatting Climate Change
  • Cybersecurity
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Great Decisions
  • The Peacebuilding Toolkit
  • America’s Diplomats
  • Current Events
The 2017 winning team from Las Cruces High

The Big Prize. The winning team (and its teacher!!!) wins an all-expense paid trip to Washington DC for the national AWQ competition on April the 28th. This is a fantastic time to visit the nation’s capital. This year’s national competition also includes a welcome reception at the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP). This reception will include featured speakers as well as opportunities for students to engage directly with USIP staff. This event will allow students to interact with experts in the field, gain an understanding of careers in international affairs, and learn about different positions and professional responsibilities at USIP.

So: get your team together. RSVP to Susan: by February 23, 2018. And then join us at the Community College at 8:30am on March 1st. We’ll serve lunch following the competition.
