In September 2014, Azerbaijan concluded agreements for the transit and sale of natural gas from the giant Shah Deniz field in the Caspian Sea to Europe. The gas pipeline will transit Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Greece, and Albania en route to southern Italy. Will this $45 billion ‘Project of the 21st Century’ diversify Europe’s gas supply enough to provide desired energy security? Art attended the September celebrations in Baku for the signature of the Southern Gas Corridor and for the 20th anniversary for the ‘Contract of the Century’ for development of offshore Caspian oilfields. Art was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Azerbaijan International Operating Company 1994-1997 for the delivery of first oil production and construction of pipelines to the Black Sea.
