When: July 3, 2012
From: 05:30 PM - 07:00 PM
Location: Community Room of the Main Branch of the Santa Fe Public Library
Featured Book: The Quest – Energy, Security and the Remaking of the Modern World
Author: Daniel Yergin
Yergin won a Pulitzer Prize for his earlier book, The Prize which became a number one best seller. That book dealt mainly with the history, geopolitical issues and development of oil and gas worldwide. This recently published book is a broader narrative of global energy issues–covering history, science, geopolitics, economics. The title reflects the scope of this book, the story and the quest for sustainable sources of energy.
Yergin’s view is that we’re entering a transition phase in dealing with the global demand for energy. This transition involves a different mix of energy supplies and a worldwide approach to “leaner” or more efficient energy.
Because it’s a long book (721 pages) we are breaking up the reading and discussion into sections. At the May discussion discussed the first three parts: Part 1, the New World of Oil, Part 2, Securing the Supply and Part 3, The Electric Age.
At the July discussion we will address parts 4, 5, 6 and Conclusion.
