This will then be followed by an elegant meal and a talk by our distinguished guest speaker, Ambassador Christopher Hill, currently Chief Advisor to the Chancellor for Global Engagement and Professor of the Practice in Diplomacy at the University of Denver. As last year, our Gala celebrates our many educational programs that bring greater knowledge of world affairs to the youth and community of Santa Fe.

He was named Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs (2005-2009) and was Special Envoy to Kosovo (1998 1999).  Ambassador Hill was a member of the team that negotiated the Bosnia peace settlement. In 2005, he was named Head of the U.S. delegation to the six-party talks to resolve the North Korea nuclear crisis.  In China and South Korea he has become a diplomatic celebrity for his role as chief envoy for talks with the North Koreans.

Ambassador Hill holds a BA in economics from Bowdoin College and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Cameroon from 1974 -1976.  In 1977 he joined the State Department serving in economic affairs with an early posting to the embassy in Seoul. Ambassador Hill received a MS from the Naval War College in 1994.  In 2010 he was selected as Dean of the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver and now serves as the Chief Advisor to the Chancellor for Global Engagement and as Professor of the Practice in Diplomacy at the University of Denver.
