It is important to note that migrants are not equally distributed in the world. During the past 40 years migrants have become more concentrated in developed countries which are a major magnet for migration flows.  In addition, migrants are concentrated in very few countries. Which countries are attracting the highest percentage of migrants and why?

Hania Zlotnik was appointed Director of the Population Division, Department of Economic and Social Affairs, United Nations Secretariat, in February 2005 after working in the Population Division for 23 years. She was the tenth person to serve as Director of the Population Division and the first woman to do so.
