May book selection: Why Nations Fail: The Origins of Power, Prosperity and Poverty
by Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson
This is a lengthy book (533 pages in hardback) so, having addressed the first half of the book at our March 4 meeting, we’ll complete the reading and finish our discussion at the meeting on Tuesday, May 7.
The authors use a series of historical case studies to illustrate the basic reasons for some nations failing—differences in the role of political and economic institutions.
The Amazon prices for this book, published March 2012, are: $11.50 paperback; $15.09 – $18.58 hardcover.
For our meeting in May, we’ll complete our reading and finish our discussion.
We’ll read the “The Twilight War” for our selection after “Why Nations Fail”.
We hope you find this selection a stimulating read and we’ll look forward to our discussion meeting Tuesday, May 7.
