The CIR Faculty/Student Committee is organizing a Portrait of Turkey event generously supported by the Turkish Cultural Foundation. This event is a must attend for anyone who has traveled or lived in Turkey, or for anyone who is interested in Turkish cuisine, and of course for anyone who is interested in international education.
Admission is $15.00 which includes authentic Turkish cuisine. Our chefs are Turkish Nationals Burcu Tuzen and Dogucan Cetin who are enrolled in SFCC’s International Culinary Arts program. Santa Fe is now being recognized and rated as an international food destination. The SFCC culinary program is a key player for this effort. The two Turkish students are part of a culinary program that sent eight students on a culinary educational study of Italy. As part of the program Burcu Tuzen and Dogucan Cetin will talk to us briefly. R.S.V.P. is required as seating is limited and previous events have been sold out.
The focus of this luncheon is on the three Santa Fe teachers who, with the generosity of the Turkish Cultural Foundation and administered by the World Affairs Councils of America, have recently returned from a two week study tour of Turkey. We will hear about their observations, their itinerary and who they met, and what they think this type of activity does for Santa Fe teachers. We are most interested in what is happening in their classrooms after experiencing this wonderful cultural study. The teachers are: Tracy Akers from Santa Fe High, Andria Liesse from Capshaw and Nina Mastrangelo from Atalaya.
These three teachers were part of two larger groups of teachers from 18 councils around the country. The tour of Turkey was a fourteen day travel to Turkish cultural sites, schools, institutes and development projects. The objective is to have teachers learn about Turkish history and culture, and to bring that knowledge into their classroom and to their students. You will be able to hear about their tour and how it has impacted their curriculum and enjoy a delicious authentic Turkish luncheon.
