The Santa Fe International Folk Art Market, a non-profit organization, produces the largest international folk art market in the world. When the 2012 market kicks off on July 13, more than 150 master artists will travel from every corner of the globe to sell their art and share their culture. Many of the artists come from developing countries, where the average income is less than $3 a day and where political, social and environmental hardships can make everyday – not to mention the creation of art – challenging. Last year, 90 percent of the market’s sales went directly to the artists. Over 20,000 people attended the market in 2011. Learn more at www.folkartmarket.org.
