The CIR Spotlight on China consists of lectures, interactive workshops, social events and cultural discussions led by distinguished scholars and local experts who will explore China’s past, present and future.

Spotlight Lecture with Q&A

From:  9 am – Noon

Location: Santa Fe Community College, Jemez Rooms

Topic:  Economics of Change 

Presenter:  Paul Trescott, PhD, Professor Emeritus of Economics at Southern Illinios University.  A look at the interaction of economic and political changes in China. 

Spotlight Workshops (Choose One)

From:  1 – 4 pm

Location:  Santa Fe Community College

Mandarin & Calligraphy 101 – An immersive class where participants will practice Mandarin language and calligraphy.

Spotlight Workshop:  Experience China – It may be far away, but travel to China is not out of reach and there are some places you won’t want to miss.

CIR Member Party

From:  6 pm

Location: Museum of International Folk Art (MOIFA), 710 Camino Lejo

Celebrate the art of China with a private showing and docent-lead tours of MOIFA’s exhibit, Writing with Thread: Traditional Textiles of Southwest Chinese Minorities, and enjoy Chinese hors d’oeuvres and wines.  $50 each.  Reservations are required and are no longer being accepted.
