The CIR Faculty/Student Committee is organizing a Portrait of Turkey event generously supported by the Turkish Cultural Foundation. This event is a must attend for anyone who has traveled or lived in Turkey,  for anyone who is interested in Turkish cuisine, and of course for anyone who is interested in international education and what is happening in our local area schools.

This is the fifth year in a row that we have submitted a grant application and won the travel award. CIR has now sent a total of 18 area teachers on the Turkish Summer Tour and this luncheon helps to recognize that accomplishment.

Admission is $18.00 which includes authentic Turkish cuisine. Our chef is SFCC Master Chef Behzad Dayeny who prepared the menu for our Workshop on Turkey event. We are pleased to have his expertise for our Turkish menu. R.S.V.P. is required as seating is limited and previous events have been sold out.

The focus of this luncheon is on the three Santa Fe teachers who, with the generosity of the Turkish Cultural Foundation and administered by the World Affairs Councils of America, have recently returned from a two week study tour of Turkey. We will hear about their observations, their itinerary and who they met, and what they think this type of activity does for Santa Fe teachers. We are most interested in what is happening in their classrooms after experiencing this wonderful cultural study. The teachers are:

Carlene Carey from the Santa Fe Indian School

Jennifer Kluck from the Caesar Chavez School

Susan Steinman from the Rio Grande School

These three teachers were part of two larger groups of teachers from 18 councils around the country. The Tour of Turkey was fourteen days of travel and touring to Turkish cultural sites, schools, institutes and development projects. The objective is to have teachers learn about Turkish history and culture, and to bring that knowledge into their classroom and to their students. You will be able to hear about their tour, how it has impacted their curriculum, and enjoy a delicious authentic Turkish luncheon.    Jeff Case PhD
