Morgan Smith has been traveling to and photographing extensively in Mexico to learn how the violence and tragedy caused by the drug war has affected peoples’ lives. While the war has caused many to become “puppets of violence,” others continue to travel to or work in the border area, mostly on humanitarian projects, and are unflinching in the face of danger.

This includes Mexicans as well as Americans, some of whom are from Santa Fe. Via his photographs from Palomas, Nogales, Sasabe, Asención and Ciudad Juárez, he will show and comment on what he has seen and what it has taught him about human nature.

Morgan Smith  graduated from Harvard University in 1960 and the University of Colorado School of Law in 1966.  Since then, he has served the public in many different ways: public defender of Adams County, CO; Colorado House of Representatives;   Commissioner, Colorado Department of Agriculture ; Executive Director of the Auroria Higher Education Center; Director of the Colorado International Trade Office; and a volunteer attorney for day laborers in Denver.  In the last seven years, he has been a freelance writer and photographer for the Denver Post, the New Mexican, Denver Business Journal, Aspen Times, The Colorado Statesman, and La Voz Colorado.  He has spent years along the Mexico – U.S. border and knows well the tragedies and triumphs that local people have undergone and achieved at a time of unparalleled violence.
